About Ethan - Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy | Telehealth
Some problems don’t yield to effort. You’ve analyzed them, read about them, and maybe worked on them in therapy, and they still hold. In my experience, that usually means the answer isn’t a better explanation. It means something else needs room.
I’m a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, and my training is in the Lacanian tradition. In our sessions, you talk about whatever comes to mind, including the odd tangent, the half-remembered dream, and the word you didn’t mean to say. I pay close attention to the details that return and the places where your story catches, because those often point to what’s driving the difficulty. My role isn’t to hand you a plan. It’s to listen carefully and help you hear what you’ve been saying.
The work is open-ended and unhurried, and it’s guided by you. It suits people who want to truly change, not just feel better for a week.
What brings people to me
Anxiety, low mood, trauma, relationship patterns that keep repeating, and a persistent sense of being stuck. You don’t need a clear diagnosis or a tidy reason for coming. A question you can’t quite put into words is enough.
Background
I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University and am a Licensed Professional Counselor. My clinical experience spans outpatient and inpatient care, individual and group work, and clients facing mood, trauma, dissociative, and personality-related difficulties. Earlier in my career, I directed a residential transitional living program and prior to that worked directly with adults living with severe-profound developmental disabilities and traumatic brain injuries.
I’ve taught psychoanalytic theory to graduate students and presented on clinical supervision at a state counseling conference. I also maintain a private practice in Columbia, South Carolina, where I live.
Working together
I see a limited number of clients by secure video through Decatur Counseling Center.
Sessions are usually 45 minutes for $150.
